MOUNT CRAWFORD - The funeral for Avis Hiram Hensley Sr., 73, of Rt. 1, Mount Crawford will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
The service will be conducted by the Rev. William F. Atwell Sr., and burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at McGaheysville.
Mr. Hensley died Wednesday. He was born March 18, 1910, at Elkton, where he lived his early life, and was a son of the late Adam L. and Mary Frances Lam Hensley.
He had lived in Martinsville and Richmond, where he was employed by DuPont, before moving to the Mount Crawford area in 1942. Mr. Hensley was a carpenter for Nielsen Construction Co. more than 20 years and later worked at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, the United Commercial Travelers and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics 149 of Elkton.
On Feb. 4,1935, he married the former Vida Coleman, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Ellen H. Lineweaver of McGaheysville; a son, Avis Hensley Jr. of Bridgewater; a sister, Louise Comer of Elkton; a brother, Ralph Hensley of McGaheysville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7:30-8:30p.m. today.
The family said contributions may be made to the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church building fund, in care of Pearl Knicely, 302 Green St., Bridgewater 22812.
