Suggested edit: George W. May died at his residence in this city Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, aged 54 years. Mr. May was a native of Lunenberg County, the son of Dr. Henry May.

After the war he came Staunton, when he married Miss Kate Waddell, daughter of the late Dr. J. Alex. Waddell, by whom he is survived with six children, three sons and three daughters as follows: Harry, Alexander W., and Lomax May, and Misses Cornelia L., Kate St. C., and Virginia McC. May. He is survived also by three sisters, Mrs. B. M. Atkinson, Mrs. Thomas C. Elder of this city, and Mrs. J. H. Dooley of Richmond, who has been visiting in the city for several days, and by two brothers, Richard H. May of Lunenberg, and Benjamin H. M. May of Burkeville. Mr. May had for some time been in declining health.

Mr. May was a gallant Confederate soldier entering the war when 17, and remaining with the army until the surrender sharing its hardships and the dangers of many desperate battles: The funeral took place from the residence at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. W. Q. Hullihen.

Those who have been designated to act as pall-bearers are John N. Opie, James Bumgardner, Jr., H. M. Mcllhany. S D Timberlake, A. H. Fultz, J. H. Wayt, W. M Allen and Arista Hoge.
