Frank J. Preston, 78, former Winona county commissioner, died Sunday morning at his home in Mount Vernon township. He had suffered a stroke Saturday night.
Born in Mount Vernon township May 25, 1873, he had lived on a farm there all his life. Besides serving on the county board for 12 years, he was also a town board member for 35 years and a director of the Plainvew Farmers Insurance Company for 16 years. His service as commissioner ended in 1948.
In 1899 he married Mary Rietz, who died in 1957. Surviving are five children, Miss Florence, Miss Gladys and James at home; Mrs. Sylvester (Annabel) Speltz, Rollingstone, and Mrs. Dick (Alsadie) Friedrick, Chippewa Falls, Wis.; five grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Herman Brown, Rollingstone. One daughter, Nora Jane, died when a child.
Funeral services will be a 9 a.m. Wendesday at Holy Trinity church, the Rev. S. N. Majerus officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Kohner funeral home here this evening and Tuesday evening. Winona Republican-Herald, April 30, 1951
