PFC Charles Fischer was killed in action on Iwo Jima on 23 Feb 1945 while providing cover fire for a fellow Marine. The Marine he was protecting was Hershel "Woody" Williams that was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery during the battle of Iwo Jima.
