Born on a farm just north of Bland, Samuel Dallas Crider was the son of James Crider and Micha nee Owens. His father was born in TN and his mother was probably born in KY. His mother's place of birth was listed KY on the 1850 and 1860 Third Creek, Gasconade, MO, census records, but Dallas Crider's MO death certificate reported that she was born in MO.

Dallas Crider married Minerva Haynes on 19 Mar 1863 in Gasconade County. This young couple settled down in Third Creek from 1870 through 1880 where Mr. Crider was farming. By 1910 Mr. & Mrs. Crider were living with their son Frederick W. Crider in Delaware, Shannon, MO. In due course the couple produced eight children: Sherman, Clinton, Dena, Mary, Alonzo, David Edwin, Fred, and Ida.

Beset by a number of physical ailments the last few years of life, Mr. Crider died in Bland at the home of his daughter, Ida, not far from his place of birth. The two obituaries to the right are courtesy of Haynes family researcher Donna Crawley.
