An old story told concerning Baby Eddie is when it has been recalled that his mother, Allie, hated doves and would grab the gun and shoot any dove she saw. At the age of three years, Eddie's family was hit by hard times and famine. Already poor, the Bamburgs resorted to eating only potatoes. This was especially hard on Baby Eddie. Eddie got to the point where he was extremely ill, and on the day of his death, his mother was carrying him while she walked down the road, and Baby Eddie pointed up into the trees and said "Look Mama, people with wings!!". Allie, his mother, looked into the trees and saw nothing but doves. "No" she said "those are doves." Baby Eddie said again "people with wings!!"
He died later that day, and from that point on, Allie went into a rage when she saw doves.
