Lawrence J. Carey, 64, of Finzel, died November 26, 1983, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland. Born at Long Stretch, he was a son of the late John L. Carey and Rose Ann (Smith) Carey. He was a retired truck driver and had worked for Lewis Concrete, Cumberland Cement and Supply and Winner Brothers. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Long Stretch; Farrady Post 24, American Legion and Salisbury Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Vivian (Burdock) Carey; six sisters, Mrs. Grace Braskey, Grantsville, Maryland; Mrs. Alice Bevans, Baltimore, Maryland; Mrs. Mary Moffatt and Mrs. Gladys Garlitz, both of Hagerstown, Maryland; Mrs. Edna Knepp, Frostburg, Maryland; and Mrs. Clara Swauger, Rices Landing; two brothers, Harry Carey and James Carey, both of Frostburg. Friends were received at the Hafer Frost Mansion Funeral Home where services were conducted by the Rev. K. Almond. Interment was in the Blocher Cemetery near Long Stretch. Pallbearers, all nephews, were Julius Carey, Jerry Tenny, James Braskey, Roger Burdock, Harry Burdock and Gerald Burdock. The Republic, Meyersdale, December 8, 1983
