His prayer card recorded his year of birth as 1818.
Anton Koblitz and Josepha Matzke married on Feb 20, 1838 in Knappendorf. His parents were recorded as Anton Franz Koblitz, deceased, and Theresia nee Pelinka who was from Hertersdorf. Other children in Anton's birth family were: Severin 1810, Rosalia 1814, and Thaddaus 1816.
Additional information from Don Strube, findagrave contributor:
Anton Koblitz (Civil War Veteran)
Born: February 17, 1818 (Czech Republic)
Died: May 25, 1904 (Seneca, Nemaha Co., KS)
Residence at time of enlistment: Manitowoc Rapids, Manitowoc Co., WI
DRAFTED: September 30, 1864 as a Pvt. in the 7th WI Infantry, Co. F
(IRON BRIGADE)
Mustered Out: May 31, 1865
His description: height: 5 ft. 7 in., blue eyes, brown hair. He was drafted at the age of 46.
According to his pension record, Anton was shot in the leg, apparently at the terrible battle of Petersburg, Virginia (which was in June 1864, although the above record states that he was drafted in Sept 1864). Will have to check the pension record again because he was probably in and out of the regiment, and drafted prior to that date of Sept 1864 as well.
He had a permanent disability from his injury, having been shot in the leg, for which he claimed a pension of $4 a month in 1890. He also had a permanent case of dysentery from his war years.
He went missing from his regiment for a short time, and may have had a family emergency of some sort, so he must have gone back to be with Josepha at that time. After the Civil War, the family moved on to Kansas.
Anton and Josepha were living in Richmond Twp, Seneca, Kansas at the time of the 1870 US Census and Anton was still living there by the 1875 Kansas Census, though Josepha was no longer living.
Richmond Twp no longer exists, but was a short distance north of Seneca. Josepha would have been buried sometime between 1870 and 1875, in the same cemetery where Anton was later buried.
