Sayre, OK - Allen Matthew "Matt" Ellison, 87, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997.
Services will be at 10 am today in Sayre First Assembly of God Church with Jim Banks and Damon Akins officiating. Burial Will be in Delhi Cemetery by rose Chapel Funeral Service.
Mr. Ellison was born in the Spring Creek community south of Sayre. He was raised in the Spring Creek area and went to school there before graduating from Delhi. He then began farming.
He married Gladnie Towry. She died in 1943. He later married Mary Lee Bonnifield. They operated the 283 Gin and Country Story before he enlisted in the Navy. He served with the Seabees during World War II.
After being discharged he returned to western Oklahoma and opened a laundry business in Sayre. He moved to Washington in 1954 to farm. After his wife, Mary, died he returned to Sayre and worked for the police department and the county. He attended the Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Ellison married Luedeen Henson in 1964 at Sayre.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nadine Holland of Lawton; a son, Gary Ellison of Sayre; a brother, Elmo Ellison of Shamrock, TX; seven grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.
