That was how his parents named him and what was on his birth certificate, his military records, his death certificate, and the name he went by his entire life...

A Mankato man, J. E. Moon, Jr., 68, died last Wednesday in Asbury Hospital, Salina.

The funeral was Saturday in the Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato, with the Rev. Jerry Milleson officiating.

Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Moon was born Aug. 30, 1919, on a farm near Burr Oak. A retired rural mail carrier, he served with the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Association of Retarded Children of Salina and Eagles and Elks Lodges in Superior. He was also a past commander and member of the American Legion and director of the OCCK, Salina.

Survivors are his wife, Vivian; three daughters, Betty Thompson of Mankato, Janet Helvey of Glen Elder and Vickie of Salina; two sisters, Ina Wright of Golden, Colo., and Zelma Hall of Red Cloud; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
