Elmer G. Finken, 77, of Montgomery, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault, Minn.

Visitation will be at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery on Tuesday, May 26 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery on Wednesday, May 27 at 10:30 a.m. Private family burial will take place at St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre at a later date. Military honors will be provided by the Montgomery Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Elmer, the son of Peter and Elizabeth (Dusek) Finken, was born in Sauk Centre, Minn., on May 16, 1931. Elmer served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1951 to 1952. He and Leona Kinney were married on August 6, 1960 in Villard, Minn., and they made their home in Montgomery, where Elmer taught until his retirement in 1995.

He was a lifetime member of the NRA, and also held memberships in the Sportsman's Clubs in Wheatland Township and Montgomery.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Leona; three children, Theresa and Mary Finken of Plymouth and Dan Finken of North Mankato; and three grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Heimel.

Elmer G Kind was adopted by Peter Finken after his father, Elmer Michael Kind died in 1932 and mother, Elizabeth remarried.
