Anthony "Mike" Bates, 46, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. The visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Anthony was born in Long Beach, CA on June 13, 1962. He grew up in Long Beach and graduated from Milliken High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and lived in San Diego, CA. He married Casey on February 14, 1982 in Long Beach, CA. After his discharge from the Navy he began working in the Biomedical Field. He and Casey then moved to Chino, CA; Tyler, TX; and then to Fort Dodge in 2003. He was a champion swimmer in high school and was also an Eagle Scout. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed fishing, playing cards, computers, listening to music and was a gun buff. He also loved to work.

Anthony is survived by his wife Casey; daughters Lauren and Katie; mother and step-father Diane and Don Huddleston; sister, Angela (Ed) Tokarski; niece Tasha Tokarski; and many aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father George Bates; grandmother, Katherine Maury and grandfather, Norman Pierce.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Paula J. Baber Hospice House.
