During Operation GOODWOOD in Bien Hoa Province on 31st January 1969, 10 Platoon contacted an enemy force in a bunker system and during the firefight, Sammy, the section forward scout, was killed along with the section machine-gunner, Pte Joseph (Joe) Ramsay, and three others were wounded.
