Frank died as a result of an accident at the family sawmill. Frank apparently stooped over the saw blade which then pulled his left arm into the blade, severing the limb. He died shortly afterward. Frank was 18 years, 4 months and 8 days old at the time of his death. The inscription on his headstone reads, "Frank's gone to meet Bertie" and is referring to Frank's older brother Ezra Elbert "Bertie" Mark. Bertie, not yet 18 at the time, had accidently shot and killed himself five years earlier. The brothers were buried side by side.
