PARSONS, Kan. -Funeral services for Ruth Dodds James, 73, former Plainview, Texas, resident, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, in Parklawn Memorial Cemetery in Plainview with Lanny Voss, a family friend, officiating. All arrangements are by Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.

Mrs. James died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at her residence after an illness. She was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Parsons, the daughter of Charles Lester and Katherine E. Harris Dodds. She grew up and attended schools in Parsons, graduating high school in 1948. She worked at the Lambert-Duffy-Melone clothing store before moving to Plainview in 1953. On June 8, 1953, she married Lester W. "Bobby" James Jr., in Plainview. They lived in Plainview where she worked for Pioneer Natural Gas Co. After her husband retired, they worked in private investing. He died Nov. 30, 1998. She moved back to Parsons in 2000. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Plainview and enjoyed knitting, sewing and making doll houses. She also was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include one son, Wade James of Parsons; one daughter, Katy James of Plainview; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles and Erma Dodds and Jimmy Dodds, all of Parsons; two sisters, Norma Cuddy of Parsons and Jeannette Shepler of Wichita; and three grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters also are deceased.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or can be mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main St., in Parsons, KS, 67357.
