George was the son of John William and Mary Adeline Carpenter Avery.He married Viola Ann Dora McDonald in Carroll County,Arkansas on December 30,1891.They were the parents of 8 children:Edgar Eli , Austin Hillard , Elmer , Edwin B. , Ertie Efton , Infant , Infant , and Otis Albia Avery.George and Viola Avery homesteaded beside his brothers Samuel Phillip and Burton Craig Avery , on Avery Ridge , east of the town of Blue Eye.
