Dean F. Griswold was born in Plymouth to Michigan pioneers, Clark Augustus Griswold and Fanny Dean in 1852. He lived most of his life in Plymouth and later in Northville as a bee keeper and was very active in his local community.
Among his many achievements and civic services, Dean Griswold received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1875, he served as Secretary of the State Horticultural Society of Michigan, was a Township officer and a Masonic officer.
Dean's first wife, Abbie, died in 1918. The following year he married his 1st cousin once removed, Mattie White.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Casterline Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Fredsell officiating. Some sixty fellow Masons attended the services, led by Knights Templar in full uniform, and also cunducted the burial rites in Rural Hill Cemetery with prayer by Rev. Fredsell….
