He was the son of Jeremiah Burge (born about 1798 in Tennessee) and Zilbreath Clemmons Burge (born about 1800 in South Carolina). His parents married on February 22, 1816 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. The burial places of his parents are unknown as of January 3, 2015. On May 23, 1866, Leonidas T. Burge married Olivia Green in Red River County, Texas. On the 1900 Red River County, Texas census he is listed as Titus L. Burge born March 1840 in Alabama. The Index to Compiled Confederate Military Service Records Research by R. Ross Houston states he enlisted in Company E, Texas 18th Cavalry Regiment.
L.T. Burge received pension No. 02438 from the State of Texas for service in the Confederate Army. He stated he was a carpenter, but had fallen from a scaffold and was injured. He had lived in Paris, Texas for six months as of the date of his application. He applied on August 9, 1899 and was approved on October 11, 1899. He lived about six months in Paris, Lamar County and served in the Company of Spies under Captain Alfred Johnson which was organized in Collin County, Texas. He later joined Parson's Texas Cavalry Brigade. K.F. Burge and J.N. Burge, both of Red River County, Texas verified his service. These were most likely his brothers, Kinly F. Burge and Jeremiah N. Burge.
