UNION GROVE - William "Blue" F. Thurmond, Jr., 64, died at the VA Hospital in (Woods) Milwaukee on Wednesday, May 20, 2009. He was born August 21, 1944, to William and Norma (nee: Hennessy) Thurmond in Benton, Ill. His family moved to Union Grove when he was young and he attended Union Grove High School until he joined the Army. After the service, he went to work in the coal mines of Benton, Ill. for 25 years. He later moved back to Union Grove and worked for the Southern Wisconsin Center for a number of years. William enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a big NASCAR fan and lived for the Bears' games. William is survived by his father, William Thurmond, Sr.; his four children, Norma 'Missy' Welker, Frankie Thurmond, Tina Thurmond, and Carl Thurmond; and his seven grandchildren, Andrew, Alyssa, Tyler, Kaden, Chelsey, Colton, and Cody. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Thurmond and his aunt and uncle Katherine and Carl McFadden. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 3 p.m. burial at the Union Grove Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
