EARL M. ADNEY, 54 DIES EARLY TODAY
Private services at residence Saturday
Earl Martin Adney 54 years old retired furniture dealer passed away at his home at 12:05 AM today following an illness of five days. The immediate cause of death was given as heart disease.
Mr. Adney was a member of one of the pioneer families of Boone county he was the son of the late Isaac S., and Eva Lewis (Brown) Adney, and spent all this life in this county. Five generations of his family engaged in the milling business one of the first mills in the county being established west of Mechanicsburg by Mr. Adney's grandfather.
Mr. Adney was a graduate of Lebanon high school and attended Indiana University. Later he became associated with his father in the operation and management of a grain elevator and mill on South Lebanon Street which was destroyed by a fire in 1905. He formed a partnership with Will Rigsby and they operated a furniture store here several years. Later Mr. Adney bought out his partner and continued to operate the business until about six years ago when he was forced to retire because of ill health.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Centenary Methodist Episcopal church here and of the Sons of American Revolution. He served as an officer in the Elks Lodge many years.
Mr. Adney was married twice the first time in Lebanon on October 16, 1901 Cora Tyre, who passed away in April of 1910. His second marriage was in Indianapolis on June 14, 1914 to Susan M. Kissell who survives.
Other survivors are two children Robert E Adney of Philadelphia and Marcella at home, a sister Mrs. John W Hornaday, of the city a half-sister Mrs. Mary C Fall, of Mechanicsburg and two brothers Roy W. Adney and Frank B. Adney of Lebanon. A daughter Valerie, proceeded him in death.
Private funeral services will be held at the residence 219 N. Park St., Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock the Rev. Robert Ross-Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
