Phyllis Lorraine Appledorn, 74, of Scottville, passed away on Oct. 14. She was the daughter of Fredrick Anthony and Loretta Emma (Abair) Stohr of Ludington.
She graduated from Ludington High school and married her high school sweetheart, Delmar Lambert Appledorn on April 3, 1954 in Ludington with Fred and Janet Stohr as their witnesses. They started their life together on a small farm in Summit Township next to his childhood homestead. Consumers Power moved in six years later displacing them for the great electric power project. They moved north to Victory Township for a larger farm to raise their family while farming crops and raising livestock. Delmar and Phyllis lived happily for 38 years until Delmar preceded her in death on March 16, 1992. Phyllis moved to Scottville to be closer to her daughter during the summer and spent winters in Zephyrhills, Fla.
Phyllis was involved in the following organizations: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, Sunday school, and Bible School when her five children were growing up. She sold Avon and Sarah Coventry door to door and vegetables at the local farmer?s market in Ludington to help with family expenses. She was a member of the Victory Trinity Lutheran Church and sang in the choir for many years.?In her later years, Phyllis enjoyed tending her flower gardens and playing cards at the Scottville and Ludington senior centers where she made new friends.
She is survived be her sons, William (Debra) Appledorn of Walhalla, Patrick Appledorn of Scottville and Michael (Leah) Appledorn of Ludington; her daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Edel of Scottville; one brother, Fred (Janet) Stohr of Muskegon; her sister, Joyce (Roy) Vanhanselaere of Zephyrhills, Fla.; several grandchildren, Ashley, Bryant Mikutis of Chicago, Ill., Phillip Appledorn, Sgt., U.S. Marine Corp, stationed at South Ridge International Guard Base at Detroit , Nathan and Derek Appledorn of Grand Rapids, Brittney Edel of Chicago, Ill., Brooke Edel of Scottville, Christopher, Cody and Michele Appledorn of Ludington; stepgrandchildren Shawn Murphy of California, Jessica Mishler of Scottville, Matt and Missy (Mishler ) Oomen of Custer.
She was preceeded her in death by her daughter, Debra (Appledorn) Mikutis on June 15, 2000.
A memorial service for Phyllis will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Ludington with the Rev. William Huether officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 ? 7 and again on Saturday morning from 10 until the time of service.
