Sometime between 1875 and 1879, Edward was called to settle in Arizona. He carried tobacco to smoke the peace pipe with the Indians. He was gone about two years but there was a problem with the local leaders over the tabacco, so he returned home.
He married and they lived in Coalville, and then moved to Wanship where he worked for the railroad. In 1870 he purchased a ranch from the railroad. To pay for it, he went to work in the coal mines for a time.
After that, he worked on his ranch and at various other jobs. He was a well-read man although he had little schooling. He loved to argue politics. He was interested in rock formations, He died of a strangled hernia.
