Dixie was the daughter of George Washington and Roxanna Adams Davis, her mother dying before Dixie was two years old. Dixie was the sister of James "Daddy Jim" Davis, Charley Davis, Will Thomas Davis, and Mary Davis. Amanda Davis Carringer was her half sister. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas and Arabella Birchfield Davis. Her maternal grandparents were William and Martha Ghourley Adams.
Dixie was the first wife of Gardner Williams. Not long after they married he was drafted into the US Army during WWI. She moved in with her father (her mother had died when she was small), on Tabcat Creek while Gardner was away. When their child was born and both the infant and Dixie died, Dixie was only 25. Gardner got a leave of absence from the Army to come home and bury them at the Calderwood Cemetery. He later married again and had a family in Graham County, NC.
