DROWNED
We regret to announce that Max Goeres, aged 25 years of Kiel, in the towns of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, was drowned in the Sheboygan river on Wednesday morning.
He and F. Meyer went hunting on the river each in a small Indian canoe. When about half a mile from the village Goeres’ canoe capsized and he being unable to swim, sank to the bottom.
His cries for assistance were heard by Meyers, who was about 800 yards distant, but he arrived too late to render and aid, although he jumped into the river and endeavored to find his friend.
The deceased was a blacksmith by trade and leaves a wife and two helpless children to mourn his unexpected death. The remains of the unfortunate man were found at five o’clock in the afternoon and interred on Thursday.
