Obituary: Charles Putnam, one of the very well known residents of Clay County and a resident of Green for many years before he moved to Clay Center to resided, passed away early Tuesday morning at his home on East Crawford street. Mr. Putnam had been in poor health for some time but was not considered dangerously ill until last week, his illness resulting from an attack of the grippe. Mr. Putnam was born in Wells county, Indiana, September 15, 1840 and came to Kansas March 24, 1870, homesteading one mile east of what is now the city of Green. He was united in marriage on October 16, 1859. His age at the time of his death was seventy three years and six months. The deceased leave a wife and three sons to mourn his death, only one of the sons now being a resident of this county, that one being Delmar Putnam of Clay Center. The other sons reside in Kansas City and Texas. All of his children were present at the funeral. Funeral services will be today at the home and later at the U. B. church in Green, with Masonic rites at the cemetery at Green.
