Sidney Franklin 'Sid' Thomas

Sidney Franklin "Sid" Thomas, 82, of Pittsburg, died at 6:21 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center of a short illness. He was born Oct. 21, 1919, at Pittsburg to Melvin C. and Nola Reed Thomas. He was raised by his father and step-mother, Margaret Thomas. He attended area schools.
Mr. Thomas was a World War II veteran Coast Artillery Division serving from 1941 until honorably discharged in 1945 as a Sergeant 1st Class.
He was employed by the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local No. 664 and the Frontenac Construction Co. He also worked at the American Metals Zinc Company at Blackwell, Okla., for 12 years.
He was a past member of the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64.
Survivors include two sisters Myrtle Thomas of Blackwell and Ida May Johns of Pittsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Francis C. and Irvin Thomas; and two sisters, Leona Lamar and Loraine Johns.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Mt. Olive Cemetery with the Rev. Daryl Gaddy officiating. Burial will follow. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Friends also may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. Saturday to follow in procession to the cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg.
