Thomas was quite probably the son of Thomas Munce and Mary McKnight (both of County Down, Ireland).
In 1803, Thomas & Mary Munce and family emigrated to the United States, landing at New Castle, Delaware. Soon after arriving there, the family moved to South Strabane Twp in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Here Thomas took up farming and remained throughout his life.

Thomas the son married Margaret Campbell sometime between 1803-1806, and started their family. It wasn't until about 1816 that Thomas and Margaret moved the family to the newly opened Mississippi Territory.

There the remainder of their 8 children were born in Natchez.

Thomas Munce and Thomas J. Ward formed the "Munce & Ward" partnership, a dry goods store formerly run by John Munce in Natchez, which begins in January of 1827, and they made a go of it until that summer: on August 21st, it was announced that the partnership is dissolved.

He was also in partnership with a John Steen - this same John Steen who may have taught John J. Audubon (of "Birds of America" fame) the use of oil paints. Audubon in early 1823 used these new-found oil painting talents to paint the Thomas and Margaret (Campbell) Munce portraits.

Thomas and his wife are buried in the "Munce & Steen" lot in Plot 1 of Natchez City Cemetery.
