Charles Hornick was born January 16, 1853, in Vienna, Austria. He came to Ft. Recovery on October 19, 1880, with his wife and five children. His first wife died and he later married Elizabeth Siefring. Three children were born to this union: Bernadine, married Frank Barrenbrugge; Ben, lived in Dayton; and Joe, a railroad engineer who resided in Lima. Mr. Hornick helped with the building of the Lake Erie and Western Railroad through Mercer County. Later he was foreman of the east section out of Ft. Recovery. He retired in 1928. Charles Hornick and his family were amoung the original members of this parish. Mr. Hornick died in 1937, and his wife, Elizabeth, died in 1941.
