Effie Kathleen Swiney, 89, of Quick, died Aug. 21, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston.
She was born Aug. 13, 1914, in Ryan, Roane County, a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Emma (Jones) Harper. She formerly worked at Dunbar Flint Glass, was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, near Walton, and attended the Quick United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one stepdaughter, Doris Welling of Dunbar; one stepson, Billy Swiney of North Carolina; two sisters, Elizabeth "Libby" Aab and Rebecca "Betty" Harris, both of Elkview; one brother, Walter Harper of Walton; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Opie W. Swiney in 1974; one stepdaughter, Mary Stephens; four sisters; and three brothers.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Sunday, August 24, 2003, at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, West Virginia, with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to the Quick United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 775, Pinch, WV 25156.
