Mary stated that she was born on a farm in Fauquier Co, VA, on June 5th, 1832. She also stated that she was the daughter of William McClanahan and Sarah Franklin, his second wife. William McClanahan is recognized by the DAR as a Revolutionary War Patriot, and Mary is recognized as a DAR Real Daughter. Her Real Daughter marker is affixed to the base of her tombstone.
She was living in Washington, DC, at the time she joined DAR in Feb 1906. But, I was wrong on her death place. According to her death notice in the Washington Post, 23 May 1910, she died at the home of her daughter in Leesburg.
