VP 19 Jul 1907 OBIT Page 4:
James Griffin, a veteran of the civil war, who spent his early days in Brattleboro, died in Los Angeles June 28.
He was about *74 years old and came to Brattleboro when a young man with his mother and sisters. His mother died just before he went to war and the only surviving sister is Mrs. Mary Higgins of Elliot street.
Mr. Griffin is pleasantly remembered by many of the older residents in town and by the comrades with whom he served in the war.
On his return from the war he married Miss Mary Grady of this town and shortly afterwards went West.
For many years his family here heard nothing from him but in recent years a correspondence has been kept up. News of his death reached them last Friday night. He leaves a widow and four daughters.
