Robin joined the U.S. Navy in April, 1944. In 1955, he was married to Audrey Annette Cawley, born April 3, 1928 in Rocky River, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. She graduated from Florida State University (Tallahassee) with a Master of Science degree in 1954. They had twin daughters in March, 1961 - Karen Jo and Mary Lou - and subsequently divorced in July, 1966. He then married Virginia Ramos and they had a child, Franklin David Mills, in December, 1968. Robin was "delivered" at birth by his paternal uncle Dr. Roy Mills of Kansas City, Mo.
