Christian was the oldest boy of the family of eight children. He literally grew up in the brewery business and followed the industry for all of his life.
Christian worked for George Ober in Allegheny City, Pa. and for some other brewers. In 1879 he entered the employment of F.L. Ober & Brother in Allegheny City, where he remained until 1883. At that time he came to Franklin and purchased the brewery which had been established by a man named Snell. This was just outside of Franklin in the Sugarcreek Township. With the comming of prohibition, Christian was forced out of the brewery busines. At one time Brecht Brewery was one of the best and largest in the area.
