John N. Tanner, son of Walter and Nellie Kallenberger Tanner was born on January 29, 1931 in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois and died there on March 16, 2005. He was a graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School, attended the Wentworth Military Academy, as well as Quincy College. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War and marched as a member of the elite US Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, also known as "The Commandants Own". He was also a former member of the Quincy American Legion Post #37 Quincy "Flying Dutchman" SAL National Champion Drum and Bugle Corps and was later one of the Co-Founders and served as the Drum Instructor for the Nationally known Quincy American Legion Post #37 "Quincy Trojans" Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Tanner and his brother Richard were for many years Co-Owners of the Tanner Music Company of Quincy, Illinois after their father and mother retired from the business and later in life Nick worked for the Illinois Veterans Soldiers and Sailors Home in Quincy where he drove the van that transported veterans between the home and the VA Hospital at Iowa City, Iowa.
