There has long been difference of opinion among family tree researchers as to the mother of Deliverance. This page originally had listed her mother's name as Margaret Watson. Andrew Bray was married first to Margaret Watson, and "Pioneer Families of Northwestern New Jersey" reports that Deliverance was one of six children born to that union. Later research reported Margaret Watson died in 1745. If this date is correct, she could not have been Deliverance's mother. More recent research (see photo) concludes that Andrew Bray did not marry Sarah Stout until much later, relying on church records of the time. Therefore the estimated date of Margaret Watson's death is in error.
Regarding her husband, John Shurts, most historians have his birth and death dates as 1756-1813. There are records of his will being "proved" and inventoried in 1813, with sons Andrew and Michael acting as executors.
