GLENDALE -- Ruth McKibben, 90, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at home.
She was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Glendale to William and Della (Aly) Lawrence. Ruth married George McKibben on April 12, 1941; he preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1988.
Ruth went to Raleigh Beauty Culture School in Harrisburg. She had worked as a beautician for 50 years. First she worked at Freida's Beauty Shop at Robbs and then from a shop at her home. She was a member of Glendale United Methodist Church and charter member of the ladies group, the Mary Circle. Ruth was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning and freezing. Ruth was known in the community as a wonderful cook, especially for her pecan rolls. Family was the most important thing to her and she made sure that no one ever left hungry.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Diane and husband, Roger Hutchins, of Golconda; sons, Greg and wife, Kay McKibben, of Murray, Ky., Gary and wife, Debby McKibben, of Anna; twin sister, Ruby Humm of Rosiclare; grandchildren, Bill (Soo Jin) McKibben, Tyler McKibben, Amber (Aaron) Sloan, Wesley Hutchins and Erin (Austin) Elloitt; great-granddaughter, Hannah McKibben; and special cat, Sugar Baby.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Lee; brother, Ewing Lawrence; sister, Velma Maynor; and twin sisters, Aleen Sistler and Irene Fritch.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Glendale United Methodist Church in Glendale. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Delbert Pancake. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
