Roland E. Freis, 69, of 819 First Street, a Kiel poultry and feed business owner and operator, died Saturday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan where he had been a patient for a month.
He moved to Kiel in 1927 and in 1932 established the Freis Von Kiel poultry and feed business. He was active in the firm until the time of his illness. Mr. Fries was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Men's Club of the church, the Kiel Area Association of Commerce and was a former alderman of the First Ward. He also was a charter member of the Manitowoc Memorial Hospital Association.
He was born September 26, 1899, in the Town of Centerville, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Freis, and was married September 26, 1922 to Linda Grotegut. They lived in Two Creeks (Manitowoc County) where he operated a garage. His wife died in November 1968.
Surviving are two sons, Lowell and Dalhardt, both of Kiel; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Herzog and Mrs. William Ruh, both of Manitowoc, and Mrs. Raymond Stueber, of Sheboygan and three brothers, Clarence, rural Plymouth, and Hilbert and Wally, both of Route 1, Newton.
