Injuries In Auto Crash Prove Fatal
A rural Sheboygan man died early today of injuries suffered Monday in an auto-truck collision at a county road intersection, a mile west of Kohler. The victim was Harry Duerrwaechter, 40, of Route 1, Sheboygan.
He died at 7 a.m. at St. Nicholas Hospital after being in semi-conscious condition since the accident. Dr. Reed M. Simpson, county coroner, attributed death to a skull fracture.
Duerrwaechter's death raised Sheboygan County's 1958 traffic death toll to 17, two more than were killed in a 12-month period in 1958.Sheriff deputies said Duerrwaechter was the driver of a car which collided with a Wisconsin Public Service Corp. truck about 3:35 p.m. Monday at the intersection of County Trunks O and Y.
The truck driver, Jack Picara, 25, of 1523 S. 10th St., told officers that Duerrwaechter's car, northbound on County Trunk Y, failed to stop for an arterial sign at the intersection.
Picard escaped injury in the crash and a passenger in the truck, George Kulas, 38, of 1223 Pershing Ave., is still hospitalized with a concussion and lacerations to the scalp and face.
No inquest is planned.Duerrwaechter, a bachelor, is a son of Mrs. Lydia Duerrwaechter at Millersville. He had worked at the Rway Furniture Co. and the Phoenix Chair Co. in Sheboygan.
Born July 22, 1918, on a farm in the Town of Sheboygan Falls, a son of Ernst and Lydia Berg Duerrwaechter, he attended school at Erdman and Howards Grove and was graduated from the Howards Grove High School.
He was confirmed at Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church in the Town of Herman. Funeral Saturday
Mr. Duerrwaechter was a member of Faith Evangelical and Reformed Church at Erdman and the church brotherhood.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, are a brother, Edgar of Howards Grove, and two sisters, Mrs. Irmgard Sprenger, Millersville, and Mrs. Roman Kalk of R. 1, Cleveland.
His father died in June 1937, and a brother, Erwin, preceded him in death in May, 1956.
The body was taken to the Meiselwitz Funeral Home at Kiel where services are tentatively planned for Saturday. The exact time and place will be announced Thursday.
