13 May 2009: Meariam P. Witmer Gipe, 90, of Lebanon, formerly of Chambers Hill, passed away Monday, May 11, 2009, at her home. Born in Lower Swatara Township on February 21, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Sadie Mae Deimler Witmer. Meariam was a devoted housewife and loving mother. She had attended the former Ulrich Elementary School and was a 1936 graduate of the former Hummelstown High School. Meariam was a former member of the Chambers Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling on a mixed league at the ABC East Lanes, Harrisburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo H. Gipe, Sr., on November 26, 1993; a son, Leo H. Gipe, Jr. on April 10, 1994; a grandson, Michael B. Gipe on November 15, 2008; one sister; and five brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Neidig wife of Leonard with whom she lived, and Margie E. Aldrich wife of Ronald of Troy; two sons, Samuel H. Gipe husband of Patricia of Dillsburg and Thomas E. Gipe husband of Donna of Harrisburg; 34 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 15, 2009, at 1 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Allen F. Helwig, Chaplain of the Good Samaritan Health System, Lebanon. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. [Harrisburg Patriot News]
