Bertha Elizabeth Stephens of Veneta died June 16, 1968. She was born January 20, 1886 in Calio, Mo. She came to Oregon two years later with her parents who settled on a land claim on Wildcat Creek, west of Noti. She has been a resident of this community for the past 80 years.
She married Church Stephens Sept. 30, 1903 in Eugene and the couple settled on a land claim in the Noti Valley. Her husband died in 1950.
Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Loyal Rebekah Lodge No. 228 in Elmira, a charter member of the Crow Grange, and the Christian Church.
She is survived by a son, Clair Stephens of Veneta, and a grandaughter(sic), Mary Nadine Balzhiser of Eugene, 2 great grandchildren, and many cousins.
The funeral was held in the Lounsbury-Musgrove Funeral Chapel in Eugene on Wednesday June 19 with Willett Jessee officiating. Interment followed in the stephens Cemetery.
