MRS. H. M. WELLS

Alice, the youngest daughter of James and Elizabeth Hixson, was born September 19, 1855, in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, and died September 10, 1921, in Pleasant township, Lucas county, Iowa, at that age of 63 years, 11 months and 21 days.

She came with her parents to Cedar township, Lucas county, Iowa, when a small child, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Marble H. Wells January 10, 1883, and to this union were born three sons and five daughters, of whom three sons and three daughters died in infancy.

Two daughters, Mrs. Gratia Bethurem, of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Olive Essex, of Alliance, Nebr., together with the aged husband and two brothers, Rev. James Hixson, of Indiana and David Hixson, of Seattle, Wash., are left to mourn her loss.

She also raised five stepchildren, two of whom are living, Mrs. Elizabeth June, of Sheridan, Wyo., and Mrs. Anna Gray, of Chariton, Iowa, 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was converted at the age of 12 years and joined the United Brethren church at Bethel, where she remained a faithful member until 1900, when she and her husband moved to their present home in Pleasant township, when they united with the M. E. church at Zion, where she remained faithful to everything that would be a help to her Master's cause, and was always at church and Sunday school when her health permitted.

Through the five months of her intense suffering she always assisted with the family worship until the last two days of her life, when she became so weak that she was unable to speak.

Her joyful smile and words of hope will always be remembered by those of her friends who were permitted to visit her during her entire illness. Everything was done that could by done by friends, and when she realized that there could be nothing more done for her she waited with patience for the time when she would be called to her reward.
