He worked with his father as a carpenter for a time and then enlisted in the U.S. Army serving his country in WWII.
After his discharge he returned to Traer and on November 8, 1945 he was united in marriage to Helen Lehr at Cedar Rapids.
They made their home in Traer all their married life where Rodger was self employed as a carpenter until his retirement.
He was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church and the Traer American Legion.
Rodger enjoyed having coffee with his friends, the Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time at the Ketter's cabin.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers John and Paul Altenhein and sister Ruth Hoeppner.
