Marcus was a member of Company L 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry during the Civil War

Private Marcus Persons enlisted on December 26, 1861 and was discharged on November 15,
1865. Note that in military records his middle initial is M.

This place was shocked last Friday
morning when Marcus N. Persons was
found dead in bed by his wife at "5 o'clock
help was called at once. Coroner Gengnagle
was summoned and he pronounced
the cause heart failure.
Marcus N. Persons was born in Jeffer­
son county, N. Y., 55 years ago came to
Minnesota with his parents when 7 years
old, residing ,in Pilot Mound, Fillmore
county, Minn. January 18,1876, he was
united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth M.
Jones. Of this happy union two children
were born to them—Edward Persons, of
Dickenson, N.D. and Mrs. Clyde Foster,
of this place. Besides those to mourn
his sad taking away he leaves 5 brothers,
1 sister, 1 step-daughter, and -3 grand­
children, all of whom followed the re­
mains to their last resting place in Riverview
cemetery, excepting brother Jesse
and sister Rosa, both of Nebraska, who
were unable to come. Funeral services
were held at the Methodist church, Conducted
by Rev. Hawkins.
January 25, 1901, ho joined the order
of Modern Samaritans, of which he was
always a welcome member, and who took
charge of the body at the grave, and
held their funeral rites as they lowered
the body to its last resting place.
Relatives from away who attended the
funeral were his son—Edward Persons,
of Dickenson, N. D)., brothers Frank Per­
sons, of Sparta, Wis., Irvin and Charley,
of Pilot Mound, Minn., Fred Persons
and his daughter, Mae, of Dover, Minn.,
B. S. Jones, wife and son Loyd, of Elgin,
