Forest Ashford died here Monday Services held Tuesday
Forrest Ashford of Georgetown died Monday at his residence. He had been in failing health for sometime and seriously ill for seven weeks.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Chapel of the Mayer Funeral Home. Officiaiting was the Rev J Henry Kohler, Pastor of Duncan Memorial Methodist Church. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mr Ashford was born October 14 1977 at Clinton NC and was a son of the late Colonel John Ashford and Mrs Elizabeth Faison Hines Ashford. He was educated in public and private schools at Clinton and came to Georgetown in 1902 to accept employment with the old Atlantic Coast Lumber Corp.
He later worked for sometime with the old Georgetown Grocery Company and then established a rental and real estate business which he operated until he retired two years ago.
Mr Ashford was a member of the Clinton NC Baptist Church. His wife the former Mrs Isabelle Viola Bellune Smith died in 1937.
Surviving are three daughters Elizabeth Ashford and Mrs Mason Nesmith Jr (Birdie Steele) Both of Georgetown and Mrs Harry Porter of Columbia several grandchildren and two sisters Mrs HL Stewart Sr of Clinton NC and Miss Serene Ashford of Fayetteville NC.
A son Lieut John F Ashford was killed in action March 31 1945 at Louzon in the Philippines.
