James V. Gillespie, 87, of Cantrall, died yesterday at St. John's hospital. He was born Feb. 1, 1869 [sic: stone has 1870], the son of Thomas and Ellen Haffey Gillespie. He retired several years ago after 50 years service as a mine examiner. Mr. Gillespie was a member of local 906, united Mine Workers of America.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; four daughters; Mrs. Marie Cory and Mrs. Teresa Spencer, both of Chicago; Mrs. Ellen Fuhrman, of Springfield, and Mrs. Anna Wasilewski of Cantrall; two sons: James, of Springfield, and Joseph, of Chicago; one brother, Bernard, of Cantrall, 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services tomorrow at St. Francis church, Cantrall. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
