Community Shocked to Learn of Death of H. J. Duecker
Herman J. Duecker, aged 69, a well-known Calumet county farmer, died suddenly Saturday noon at his home here. Mr. Duecker had gone to Milwaukee on Friday on business, and returning homeSaturday morning began to feel as though he were catching a cold, so he stopped in at a local doctor's office, explaining how he felt, and was given some pills to take. Upon arriving home he told Mrs. Duecker about his condition, and then slumped over.
The deceased was born at Brillion, Dec. 4, 1879, the son of the late Charles and Augusta Duecker.
The family moved to the homestead farm one mile north of this city in 1883, and Mr. Duecker attended the public schools here.
On April 3, 1902, he was united in marriage with Johanan Feile of the town of Schleswig. The couple operated the homestead farm, property of the Duecker family for almost 100 years, until 1942, when they moved to Kiel.
Mr. Duecker was active in herd and dairy improvement, havingtaken a short course in the subject at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and was a long-time member of the Guernsey Breeders' association.
He was a member of the Manitowoc county board of supervisors, a director of the State Bank of Kiel, a member of the Kiel Chamber of Commerce, and a former elder and member of thc Brotherhood of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Helga) Dawurske, and a brother, Arthur K., all of this city. His parents and a sister preceded him in death.
