BENJAMIN J. HARRISON, Slipped On Clay Bank - Body Found In Four Feet of Water
Durhamville, Oct. 24.- Benjamin J. Harrison, aged 68, a lifelong resident of this village, lost his life by drowning Thursday night. His body was recovered this morning and Dr. H. J. Teller coroner if Rome was summoned.
Harrison resided in a small building on the heel path side of the canal. a short distance east of Durhamville. He also owned house and barn on the tow path side The drinking water was not of the best at the dwelling on the tow path side and Harrison was in the habit of taking a pail of water across the canal each day.
To save to walk to a foot bridge, Harrison used a raft of timbers to cross the canal. He also made use of the barn on the tow path side.
Harrison was last seen Thursday evening when he ferried some water across. His sister and a nephew, Frances C. Wells, reside with him. Wells is employed in Oneida and on arriving home, Thursday evening, missed his uncle. He sat up until 3 o'clock awaiting Harrison's return.
This morning at daylight a search was made and the body was discovered in the water near the raft and on the heel path side of the canal. There is a steep bank where the body was found. There were marks on the bank in the wet slippery clay which showed that Harrison had slipped at that point and plunged into the water. The water at this point is four feet deep.

His mother's maiden name was Esther Donley, but I have been unsuccessful in locating her grave.
