The son of John A Wilson and Mary Ann Shelly, both pioneers born in Pennsylvania. Their families moved from Pennslvania to Ohio in the 1830s.
Christian served with Company M of the First Iowa Cavalry during the Civil War, supplying his own horse. Wounded in the War, Christian received a government pension. Besides farming, he ran a hotel in Yates Center, Kansas, where he settled after the War. He is the father of 10 children with his wife Sarah Ann Scott Wilson: Mary Jane, Corrie E, Scott H, John T, Laura B, Irving Clarence, Myrtle May, Thomas E, William Arthur, and Harry C. The Wilson family moved from Kansas to Arkansas and then to Oklahoma.
