February 18. To day at 9 o'clock at the village mother's funeral is to be preached by the Rev Mr [Jesse] Barnet. The morning has been so wet that [not] I or any of my family could go to the funeral, and I having to attend to finishing the grave. The morning is wet indeed. It has been very wet for 2 or 3 weeks and no appearance of better weather. I am sorry the day is so unfavorable for the burying, and the land is so wet. This will be a disagreeable day for all.
February 19. Went to the grave-yard to superintend the finishing of the grave. The ground was very wet but there was not as much watter [sic] in the grave as I expected. The grave was ready when the corpse and the relatives came from the village. The funeral was preach[ed] by Mr Barnet at 9 o'clock.
