Thomas Frederick Masterson - Born November 3, 1930 at Sedalia, MO the son of John Thomas Masterson and Clara Katherine Jens. He passed away January 4, 2008 at his daughter's home in Diamond, MO after a short illness. He was united in marriage to Shirley Marie Lane on May 2, 1955 at Chicago, IL and to this union 4 children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley Masterson; one brother David E. Masterson; and three sisters Mary H. Gramslisch, Wilma J. Masterson and Iola M. Hatfield. He is survived by two sons Thomas Franklin Masterson of Diamond, MO and Kevin Wayne Masterson of Kansas City, MO; two daughters Melea (Mrs. David Stump) of Diamond, MO and Linda (Mrs. Joseph Nabity) of Springerville, AZ; two sisters Edith L. McBride of Mountain View, MO and Clara Caroline (Mrs. Glen Edwards) of Ava, IL; five grandchildren Jayson David Nabity and wife Sondra(Sam) Lynn, Michelle Lynn Nabity, Eric Daniel Hillstead, David Matthew Hillstead, and Shannon Marie Hillstead; four great grandchildren Kaihlyb Joseph Nabity, Dylan Jaymes Wilson, Hannah Morgan Greeson and Trevor James Greeson; a host of other family and friends. Thomas enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1950. He was retired from the United States Army on May 31, 1973 after serving his country faithfully and honorably for over 22 years. During his time of service he received many medals, badges and ribbons. While recovering in the hospital in Vietnam, Thomas learned to crochet as part of his therapy. Thomas passed this talent on to his daughters. Thomas had a great love of learning. He had an amazing vocabulary, and a quick mind. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and his mind remained sharp even when his body began to weaken. Thomas loved nature and was familiar with the plants native to the area. He enjoyed sharing this knowledge with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being in the outdoors. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Mountain View with Rev. David Fowler officiating. Visitation for Mr. Masterson will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2007 from 6 PM until 7:30 PM at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Mountain View. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Mountain View following military honors under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Mountain View.
